Volunteers help out at National Tree Planting Day - 29 Jul 2008
Council invited the Broken Hill Community to join them on the weekend,and plant 140 trees and 100 ground covers along Airport Road, to celebrate National Tree Day - Sunday July 27, 2008.
National Tree Planting Day is an Australian environemental initiative organised by Planet Ark, aimed at promoting community planting of native trees and shrubs. Council's involvement in National Tree Day reflects its efforts to support the environment through community development. more ..

There were winners in four categories:

8-9 years:
Mercedes Lee Tonkin, 8 years
10-12 years:
Rebecca Yates, 12 years
Each child won an art gift pack so that they can continue on with their artistic ventures. The competition was judged by Broken Hill Art Gallery Director Bruce Tindale and Customer Relations Officer and poster artist Bill Palmer.
All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation in the mail and all entries will remain on display in the foyer during Local Government Week (July 28 – August 2, 2008).
This is where we need the children’s help. By creating a drawing of a threatened species they will show everyone what these animals look like, and people will recognise them when they see them. Animals often become endangered due to loss of suitable habitat. If we recognise these threatened species we can find them and protect them and their homes.

Roadworks for the week beginning Tuesday February 26, 2008 include;
26/02/08 Ryan Street Nicholls Street to Gypsum Street “Compiling this vacant land list is just one way that Council is assisting with the projected growth of the city,” Council’s General Manager Frank Zaknich said. “In assembling the vacant land list, Council contacted owners of vacant blocks within the City asking them whether they were willing to be added to a database of vacant blocks for sale. “The property owners listed have consented to their contact details being made publicly available by Council for the purpose of interested persons being able to contact them direct in regard to possible purchase of their vacant land. “It is suggested that persons interested in purchasing a block of land contact the owner of the land in writing to initiate discussion regarding the sale of the land.
“Council is providing the list for information purposes and can give no guarantee about the suitability of the land for development, availability of utilities or services in respect of the vacant land. more ..
