Your EnvironmentResidential Waste Services / Commercial Waste ServicesBroken Hill City Council operates a free landfill site for its residents. To help Council to keep this facility free, we urge residents to separate their waste as much as possible by using the "drop off" facility provided at our Landfill and wast depot in Wills Street. In 2002 a new curb side green waste service was introduced for residents in Broken Hill. Since its introduction, 1734 tonnes of green waste has been diverted from landfill. In 2003, Council was successful in taking out the National Waste Minimisation Award in the Australian Tidy Towns Awards. In order for Council to fulfil this role Council employs Environmental Health Officers who are given various delegated inspection and enforcement powers.
